Two people have died and one was injured after the hot air balloon they were in caught fire and crashed during a public event in Enrique Estrada, Mexico, according to local officials.
The accident occurred on the morning of May 11, 2025, during the First Balloon Festival at the 2025 Enrique Estrada Fair. Officials reported that one person on the balloon died, while two others sustained non-life-threatening first-degree burns.
Video footage posted to X shows the balloon engulfed in flames as it descends, with one person hanging from the basket before falling to the ground.

In a statement published on Facebook, Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, Secretary General of Government in Zacatecas, called the crash an “unfortunate incident.”
“Authorities immediately rushed to the scene to provide care and support to those affected,” Mugüerza said. “We urge all municipal authorities to reinforce their verification mechanisms to avoid this type of risk during the development of their activities and festivities.”
Mugüerza added that the State Prosecutor’s Office will investigate the incident to “clarify the facts and determine responsibilities.”
On January 12, 2025, a similar incident occurred when a balloon launched from Teotihuacán was carried by the wind to Axapusco, resulting in a forced landing. Two foreign tourists were hurt and taken to a hospital.
