During the 2025 AERO Friedrichshafen show in Germany, officials with Continental Aerospace Technologies commemorated a milestone for the company’s Jet-A piston engine series.

Introduced in 2020, the line of Jet-A piston engines for general aviation has surpassed 12 million flight hours, they reported.

The Continental CD-170 features turbocharging technology, 170 horsepower of takeoff power, while its dry weight is below 345 pounds, company officials said.

Continental Jet-A engines are installed on certified aircraft from Tecnam, Diamond, and Piper. Continental also offers a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) retrofit kit, enabling aircraft owners to retrofit Jet-A burning engines to existing airplanes, such as select models of Cessna 172s, Piper PA-28, and Diamond DA40.

The celebration of the milestone comes while the company is celebrating its 120th anniversary.

Founded in 1905 in Muskegon, Michigan, the company will commemorate the anniversary later this year, officials said, noting there are plans to bring together “past and present team members, partners, and the aviation community” to honor the company’s history, as well as its future.
