PARIS — Imagine racing on the runways of an international airport — not in your airplane, but on foot.
That’s what happened Oct. 20, 2024, for the first time at Paris-Le Bourget Airport, when supporters and volunteers with Aviation Sans Frontières, a Paris-based NGO using aircraft and volunteers to support humanitarian needs around the world, held its first AéroRun solidarity event, a race around the runways of the airport.
AéroRun gathered more than 1,200 participants of all ages, with a strong presence of young runners. According to organizers, 22 nationalities were represented and more than €200,000 (about $217,720 in U.S. dollars) was raised to support the missions of Aviation Sans Frontières.
The race was designed to raise awareness and the funds to acquire a flying hospital, according to organizers. The organization already supports multiple missions, such as humanitarian transport in Africa, the accompaniment of children needing medical care in France, and more.
