Warner Bros. and Legendary mined box office gold this weekend with the spectacular debut of “A Minecraft Movie,” which towered over the competition with £15 million ($19.1 million), according to Comscore.
The film, based on the beloved video game franchise, delivered the highest opening of 2025 so far in the U.K. and Ireland.
Landing in second place was Universal Pictures’ “Six The Musical” – the stage-to-screen adaptation of the West End hit that reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as pop queens – which also posted a robust debut with $2.7 million.
Disney’s “Snow White” dropped to third place in its third weekend, earning $853,612 and bringing its cumulative total to $10.1 million. A new entry at No. 4, dark comedy “Death of a Unicorn,” distributed by Entertainment Film Distributors, opened with $621,275.
Warner Bros.’ Jason Statham vehicle “A Working Man” landed in fifth place with $422,325 in its second weekend, bringing its total to $1.7 million.
Rounding out the lower half of the top 10 were a mix of holdovers and new entries. Universal’s “Black Bag” added $214,004 in its fourth week, followed closely by Curzon’s “Flow,” which took in $211,411 to bring its three-week total to $1.5 million.
Universal’s long-running hit “Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy” placed eighth with $203,444 in its eighth weekend, pushing its remarkable total to $58.6 million. Paramount’s “Novocaine” was in ninth with $190,624, now at $1.2 million after two weekends.
Icon Film Distribution’s “Mr. Burton” rounded out the top 10, debuting with $176,696.
Coming up, launching midweek on Wednesday, April 9, Dogwoof offers an Imax preview of “One To One: John & Yoko,” a documentary focusing on John Lennon and Yoko Ono. These previews on the 9th and 10th mark the film’s limited initial rollout ahead of wider release. Dreamz Entertainment also releases Telugu-language Indian film “Jack” on the same day.
Thursday, April 10 brings several additions to the release slate, including “The Chosen: The Last Supper – Episodes 1 & 2,” distributed by Trafalgar Releasing. The special presentation expands the hit faith-based series with a cinematic event focused on the final days of Christ. Also releasing Thursday are Dreamz Entertainment’s Malayalam-language Indian comedy “Marana Mass” and Tamil-language Indian action film “Good Bad Ugly,” starring Ajith Kumar, from DJ Tech LTD.
A busy Friday, April 11 sees the wide release of “The Amateur,” an espionage thriller from Disney, starring Rami Malek and Laurence Fishburne. Universal is opening whodunnit “Drop.” Modern Films presents “The Return,” a historical drama from Uberto Pasolini starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.
From Conic comes “Holy Cow,” the Cannes-winning French coming-of-age comedy directed by Louise Courvoisier.
Park Circus revisits a family favorite with “Babe,” the 30th anniversary reissue of the beloved 1995 film directed by Chris Noonan.
Easter-themed programming continues with animation “The King Of Kings,” from KOVA Releasing, Featuring an all-star voice cast including Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, Pierce Brosnan, and Forest Whitaker.
Releases also include soccer themed comedy “Fran The Man,” released by Volta Pictures, and comedy-drama “Przepiękne!” from Magnetes Pictures, offering audiences a chance to explore storytelling from Ireland and Poland, respectively.
The release week wraps on April 12 and 13, with “Andre Rieu’s 75th Birthday Celebration: The Dream Continues,” a two-day-only concert event presented by Piece Of Magic Entertainment.
