Accor’s Initiatives to Fight Gender-Based Violence

In recognition of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and in line with our spirit of care, we shine a light on initiatives and partnerships, that Accor teams have developed around the world, to champion gender equality, combat violence and empower women.

Empowering Women, Fostering Change

Accor continuously demonstrates its commitment to gender equality and diversity through global and local initiatives aimed at protecting and empowering women. Whether we’re combating gender-based violence, addressing domestic violence or tackling sexual harassment and workplace sexism, we are focused on driving genuine change and making a positive impact.

On the world stage, the Group has actively participated in the gender discussion as co-leader of UN Women’s Generation Equality Action Coalition on Gender-based Violence since 2021, and as a member of OneInThreeWomen, Europe’s first corporate network fighting violence against women. With grassroots programs and partnerships worldwide, Accor works every day to ensure equality, safety and empowerment, staying true to our DNA of welcoming and caring for all.

Leading the Way: Anne-Sophie Beraud and Ghada Hatem Discuss Accor’s Partnership with Maison des femmes Restart

Since 2021, Accor has been a proud supporter of Maisons des femmes Restart, an organization established by Dr. Ghada Hatem in 2016. Its comprehensive and holistic services help women in difficult situations and victims of violence.

As part of its 5-year commitment, Accor has supported the original Maison des femmes in Saint-Denis and funded five additional houses across France, with a sixth opening today in Nice, moving closer to the goal of establishing ten houses nationwide by 2025. The organization’s Restart project, currently underway, aims to expand into a total of 25 homes across France, extending this vital public service.

The Group further contributes by covering the organization’s costs for seminars, training sessions, and practice evaluations aimed at addressing vicarious trauma – initiatives that drive impactful and sustainable change.

A Global Commitment: Impactful Initiatives Around the World

Entre Mujeres in Spain: Over the past several years, Accor has partnered with Entre Mujeres, a Spanish non-profit organization founded in 2000, to help women who have survived violence or forced migration integrate into society. Since 2000, the organization has provided material and emotional support to these women and launched sewing and art workshops with Soulem, a social enterprise that helps women regain independence and dignity.

ACOLHE in Brazil: In collaboration with the Avon Institute, Accor co-created the ACOLHE program to support female victims of violence. Since 2020, it has provided temporary accommodation, meals, psychological support and job training through the Accor Academy. Over 9,053 stays have been provided to 1,794 women and children. An internal hotline available since 2021, Canal da Mulher, has already provided more than 167 female Accor employees who have faced domestic violence with legal, psychological and social services.

La Fondation des Femmes in France: Accor and La Fondation des Femmes launched the WEDA platform in 2022, offering emergency accommodation in over 300 hotels. To date, 1,253 women and children victims of domestic violence have been housed, totaling 11,038 overnight stays. This initiative is in alignment with the Group’s mission of responsible hospitality, creating positive impact in local communities.

Soieries du Mékong in Cambodia: For years, Accor Heartist Solidarity has supported Enfants du Mékong’s Soieries du Mékong project, protecting traditional silk-weaving while combating gender-based violence in Banteay Chhmar. The women of this isolated village near the Thai border, often migrate to Thailand for work, where they face exploitation. To prevent this, the project established a silk-weaving training and production center, empowering over 100 women with sustainable livelihoods and financial independence.

Lila.help Across the Globe: Accor supports Lila.help, a global directory of support services for victims of domestic and sexual violence. This accessible platform connects users to helplines, shelters and crisis centers worldwide, in partnership with organizations like UN Women and Global Network of Women’s Shelters (GNWS).
