Amazon MGM Studios has given a cast contingent series order to a new project from The Wonder Project.
Titled “It’s Not Like That,” the series hails from creators and showrunners Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson. The official logline states:
“Lori is freshly divorced with two teens. Malcolm’s a minister and recently widowed dad of three. Their families once did everything together, but now Lori and Malcolm must navigate their newly minted singledom, parenthood and the complexities of Malcolm being a modern-day minister. Is this the beginning of a love story? It’s not like that. Or is it?”
Jon Erwin, Justin Rosenblatt, and Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten of Wonder Project will executive produce along with Alex Goldstone for 42 and Anonymous Content as well as Kingdom Story Company.
Deitchman and Robinson are currently co-executive producers for “Off Campus,” which was ordered to series at Amazon Prime Video back in October. Their other credits include the Amazon shows “As We See It,” “Carnival Row,” and “Z: The Beginning of Everything,” as well as shows like “Ordinary Joe” and “Rise” at NBC, “Almost Family” at Fox, and “The Bold Type” at Freeform. They also wrote for the hit NBC series “Parenthood” and penned the feature “Life As We Know It.”
They are repped by Verve, 42 and McKuin, Frankel & Whitehead.
This marks the latest series order at Amazon for Wonder Project, as the company is currently prepping the Biblical series “House of David” for the streaming arm of the online retail giant under a deal they signed in early 2024. Michael Iskander is set to play the role of David in that show.
The Wonder Project was launched in 2023 with a focus on faith-based content. The company was founded by Erwin and Hoogstraten. Wonder Project raised more than $75 million in seed and Series A funding ahead of the launch, with Lionsgate, producer Jason Blum, United Talent Agency, and Sovereign’s Capital and Powerhouse Capital among the investors. Dallas Jenkins, the independent producer-director behind the drama series “The Chosen,” which revolves around the life of Jesus, is a special adviser to the company.
