Baby Yoda Is the Reason Why Sigourney Weaver Did The Mandalorian & Grogu

Sigourney Weaver credits Grogu, otherwise known as Baby Yoda, for the reason why she signed on for the latest “Star Wars” blockbuster, “The Mandalorian & Grogu.”

“I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie,” Weaver said in an interview with GamesRadar+. “And he’s a little badass too. It’s going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he’s grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series.”

Although details on her role, unveiled back in May, are slim, Weaver went on to tease, “I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority. And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens.”

In January 2024, Lucasfilm unveiled the Disney+ series spinoff starring Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter known as “The Mandalorian” and his adorable sidekick Grogu. Series creator Jon Favreau will serve as director and will produce the film with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and “Ahsoka” creator Dave Filoni.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said in a statement upon the film’s announcement. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Other than Pascal and Weaver, the only other major cast member to be revealed is Jeremy Allen White, who will play the son of iconic “Star Wars” evildoer Jabba the Hutt.
