Bad Bunny released his second solo single of the year on Thursday night, marking the introduction of a new blend of sounds for the hitmaker. The song, titled “El Clúb,” was released alongside a trippy and colorful video directed by Stillz.
Bunny is seen in a lavish fur coat at the beginning of the visual as he enters an elevator that sends him to “El Clúb” where he joins a crowd of beautiful women. When he returns home, a montage of AI-generated images and other “memories” flash across the screen as Bunny sings, “What could my ex be doing? / Haven’t seen her around for a while / Could it be she’s over me and doing fine? While I’m here drunk, wondering.”
The song itself fuses synth beats with guitars and plena, a style of Puerto Rican music rooted in Afro-Indigenous traditions. Bunny sings about longing for the simpler times, and sees him reminiscing on old memories of him at the club. The song is produced by his longtime collaborators, MAG and La Paciencia, along with Saox (Iggy Azalea, Rauw Alejandro).
Bunny has not released much music this year outside of a pair of collaborations with Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro, and his own “Una Velita ” (“A Candle”), which served as a political message to the island of Puerto Rico on the seven-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria.
More recently, Bunny was nominated for a Grammy in the best música urbana album category for his 2023 album, “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana” (“Nobody Knows What Will Happen Tomorrow”). He also won a Latin Grammy for best reggaeton performance for “Perro Negro.”
