Badrutt’s Palace Hotel has long been hailed as the playground of the international elite, synonymous with impeccable service, exclusivity, indulgence, and glamorous fun. This month, the 129-year-old alpine icon welcomes the opening of the Serlas Wing, marking the hotel’s first major renovation in over a century. The culmination of seven years of intensive planning, the expansion includes 25 contemporary luxury guest rooms and suites as well as an underground pedestrian tunnel system providing guests with an exclusive passage to the town square and Chesa Veglia, the oldest farmhouse in St. Moritz and home to four restaurant concepts by the Palace.
Located directly on Via Serlas, the world’s highest luxury shopping street, and designed by the Milanese architectural icons ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, who have been at the helm of celebrated luxury hospitality projects worldwide, the six-story Serlas Wing seamlessly blends into the pre-established local architecture. Taking cues from the surrounding environment, the building’s portico is constructed of regional Dorato Valmalenco stone and dotted with deep, carved-in windows, accompanied by bronze details for a touch of elegance. Juxtaposing the rest of the structure, the cantilevered wooden roof, while constructed with locally sourced materials, signals a departure from tradition, embodying a forward-looking vision.
The 25 modern luxury guestrooms and suites pulls from local traditions by weaving elements of nature into the design. Oakwood, natural stone flooring, and wool-fabric wall panelling all work in tandem to create a feel and colour palette that complement the surrounding Swiss Alps and the blue hues of nearby Lake St. Moritz. The interiors feature furniture by B&B Italia and fabrics by Loro Piana Interiors, putting the finishing touches on a comfortable and sophisticated stay.
The unveiling of the Serlas Wing marks the beginning of a new chapter in the hotel’s storied history and acts as a bridge between tradition and the future.
