Global IP powerhouse Superprod Group and international media group and rights owner Coolabi Group are teaming to develop and produce a animated universe based on the best-selling children’s high fantasy book series “Beast Quest.”
There aren’t many IPs the size of “Beast Quest” that haven’t already been tapped for some kind of game, film or TV production. The 180 titles in the series have sold over 25 million copies and been translated into 30 languages. “Beast Quest” is a mega-hit in many European countries, including the U.K., France and Germany, and popular in Japan as well. The series’ pseudonymous author, Adam Blade, ranked 7th across all genres and authors in the U.K. library lending charts in 2023.
Sticking close to the original books, the animated series will tell the story of protagonists Tom and Elenna and their quest to protect the Kingdom of Avantia from the evil wizard Malvel.
Superprod is putting a significant amount of development and production muscle behind the animated series, which will be produced entirely at company-owned subsidiaries, including Wheel in Motion in the U.K., The Coproduction Company in the U.S., Red Monk Studio in Italy, Melusine in Luxembourg and Superprod Animation in France.
The show’s 26 30-minute episodes will feature CG and hybrid animation techniques with a bespoke aesthetic being developed specifically for the IP. When finished, it will be distributed by Superights, Superprod Group’s international sales division.
“‘Beast Quest’ represents a key moment for us,” said Wheel in Motion’s Alexi Wheeler. “This is a beloved brand with immense storytelling potential. With its action-packed narrative and a vast universe of creatures, we are confident that the animated series will capture the imagination of a new generation of viewers, just as the books have done for nearly 20 years.”
Jeremy Banks, CEO of The Coolabi Group, added, “I could not be happier that one of our most successful and much-loved book brands is being brought to life with the exceptional creative team at Superprod. Created by our very own story team at Working Partners and cherished through every book written, ‘Beast Quest’ is a publishing phenomenon that resonates with kids today every bit as much as it did when it first launched almost twenty years ago. We can’t wait to bring the series to screens and devices around the world.”
