Benedict and Sophie's Love Story

Benedict and Sophie’s Love Story

Netflix gave “Bridgerton” fans a special Valentine’s Day present Friday with a first look at Season 4. The streamer unveiled several images from the upcoming season as well as a behind-the-scenes video cut with the first footage from the new episodes, which are still in production.

Now starring new leading couple Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha as Benedict Bridgerton and love interest Sophie Baek, respectively, the new season “turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict (Thompson). Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver (Ha’s Sophie) at his mother’s masquerade ball.”

During Friday’s “Season of Love” event for the show, “Bridgerton” showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed alongside Thompson and Ha that Season 4 is the “most faithful” adaptation of one of Julia Quinn’s “Bridgerton” book thus far in the Netflix series. She teased that specific plot points pulled from Benedict’s book, “An Offer From A Gentleman,” will include the fan-favorite masquerade ball (which Brownell says will make up the majority of the Season 4 premiere episode), the “my cottage” moments and the iconic lake scene.

Thompson, Ha and Brownell also say that Season 4 will dive much more into the Edwardian era’s upstairs-downstairs class politics than previous seasons, due to Sophie being of a lower class than Benedict and the Bridgerton family, as well as the fairytale and forbidden love tropes.

The fourth season is currently in production in London and no premiere date has been set for the new episodes.

Season 3, which was released in two parts on Netflix between May and June 2024, focused on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Season 2 was centered on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), and the debut installment followed Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simone Basset (Regé-Jean Page).

Brownell says that Kate and Anthony and Colin and Penelope will return for Season 4, this time as new parents with their respective babies in tow.

The fourth season of Netflix’s hit period romance from executive producer Shonda Rhimes marks the halfway point for a show that’s intended to adapt all eight of author Julia Quinn’s “Bridgeton” books, each focused on a different sibling from the titular Regency-era British family.

All three seasons currently rank among the top 10 most-watched English language TV titles ever on the platform.

“Bridgerton” Season 4 will consist of eight episodes. The series is executive produced by showrunner Brownell alongside Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica and creator Chris Van Dusen.

Additional main cast members include Claudia Jessa, Hannah Dodd, Will Tilston and Florence Hunt as the other Bridgerton siblings, as well as Ruth Gemmell as their mother and Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte and Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury.
