Another former “Big Bang Theory” cast member has signed on to the spinoff series currently in the works at Max.
Variety has confirmed that John Ross Bowie has signed a talent holding deal with studio Warner Bros. Television that would see him reprise the role of Barry Kripke, or “Kwipke” if you’re nasty. Bowie would appear alongside previously announced cast members Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus, and Kevin Sussman. Those three would also be reprising their roles from the original show.
The potential show was originally announced as being in development at Max back in April 2023. Exact plot details remain under wraps. It remains in development and has not been greenlit to series at this time. “Big Bang Theory” co-creator Chuck Lorre is executive producing the new project via Chuck Lorre Productions, with Lorre currently under an overall deal with series studio Warner Bros. Television. Zak Penn and fellow co-creator Bill Prady also executive produce.
In “The Big Bang Theory,” Kripke was a fellow physicist at Cal-Tech and a frequent rival of Sheldon’s. Bowie originally joined the series in Season 2 and went on to appear in the show throughout the remainder of its run.
In addition to his time on “Big Bang Theory,” Bowie is known for starring in shows like “Speechless” at ABC, “Children’s Hospital” at Adult Swim, and for films like “The Heat” and “Sex Drive.” He is repped by Innovative Artists.
Should it move forward, this would be the fourth series in the “Big Bang Theory” universe. Aside from the mothership show, which ran for 12 highly-rated seasons on CBS, the prequel “Young Sheldon” wrapped up its own seven-season run at the broadcast network in May 2024. A spinoff of that show, “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, debuted on CBS on Oct. 17, 2024.
