Big Thief Release New Passional Relations EP to Support Wildfire Relief Efforts

Big Thief have released a new EP to support wildfire relief efforts in California. A majority of proceeds from the five-track Passional Relations will go toward the Plus1 LA Fires Fund. Head to the band’s webstore to buy the digital EP for $15.

Passional Relations opens with two songs—“Imagination” and “Light as Light”—that the group recorded with Dom Monks in 2020. The third song, “Waiting on Blue,” was recorded with Scott McMicken in 2020, and it features vocals from Mat Davidson. The fourth track, “Zombie Girl,” also comes from 2020, and it was recorded by Sam Owens at Flying Cloud. (A different version of “Zombie Girl” featured on Adrianne Lenker’s Songs.) And the closing song, “Shadow Too,” was recorded by Big Thief’s James Krivchenia, in Topanga, California, in 2018.

In a press statement, Big Thief said, “Our hearts are broken for everyone affected by the fires in California. We’ve put together some of our favorite unreleased songs into an EP called Passional Relations, only available on our webstore, and all proceeds will go toward providing relief for those impacted by the fires in Los Angeles. Our hope is that these contributions will not only help address the crucial and immediate needs of affected communities but also help sustain the work, identity, and culture of the artists within them.”
