Boeing logs 303 orders in May 2025 as Airbus reports none

Boeing ordered 303 new aircraft in May 2025, marking the sixth-best month for orders in the planemaker’s history.

This marks a significant increase from only eight orders that Boeing placed in April 2025, whereas Airbus saw a considerable drop in orders compared to earlier months, with only 11 total orders in April 2025.

According to Boeing’s orders and deliveries report, of the 303 aircraft ordered in May 2025, there were 119 737 MAX, 75 787-10s, 45 787-9s, 30 777X, 20 737 MAX, seven 787-9s and seven 737 MAX.

Meanwhile, its European rival Airbus did not report any new orders during the same period, possibly holding back announcements ahead of a reveal at the International Paris Air Show.

The orders for May 2025 represent a major milestone for the aircraft manufacturer, particularly since Boeing announced plans to boost its monthly production rate from 38 to 42 units of the 737 MAX series of narrowbodied aircraft by mid‑2025.

However, while the planemaker is receiving new orders, Boeing is struggling to reduce its large backlog of 6,537 unfilled orders as of May 2025, due to ongoing production limitations and persistent supply chain problems.

As of early June 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is yet to lift the production limit of 38 aircraft each month on Boeing’s 737 MAX jets. The limit was imposed following the Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 plug door blowout in January 2024.

Regarding deliveries, in May 2025 Boeing handed over 45 new aircraft – six fewer than Airbus, which delivered 51 aircraft to 32 customers during the same month.

So far in 2025, Boeing has delivered 220 new aircraft to customers, including 167 737s, 28 787s, 16 777s and nine 767s. Meanwhile, Airbus delivered 243 new aircraft to 61 customers worldwide.
