Brett Goldstein has set his first stand-up comedy special at HBO.
Titled “The Second Best Night of Your Life,” the hour will debut sometime in April on HBO and will be available to stream on Max.
The “Ted Lasso” star and “Shrinking” co-creator has long been a stand-up comic — his first Edinburgh Festival Fringe show debuted in 2010 — but none of his shows throughout the years have received a formal release. “The Second Best Night of Your Life” marked his first-ever stand-up tour.
“I’m so excited to do my first special, not on TV but on HBf**kingO!” Goldstein said in a brief yet enthusiastic statement.
“We all know Brett as an incredibly gifted writer and actor, but his roots are in stand-up. He has a razor-sharp, dark sense of humor and is the perfect combination of British gentleman and cheeky troublemaker. We are so, so happy to work with him on his first special,” said Nina Rosenstein, executive vice president of HBO programming for late night and specials.
Goldstein is a comedian, actor, writer and producer who is best known for playing Roy Kent on Apple’s feel-good soccer comedy “Ted Lasso.” He reteamed with series creator Bill Lawrence to co-create the therapy dramedy “Shrinking” with Jason Segel. Goldstein will next be seen in “All of You,” a film he wrote and stars in opposite Imogen Poots. He is also currently in production on the upcoming romantic comedy “Office Romance,” in which he stars alongside Jennifer Lopez. He hosts the podcast “Films to Be Buried With.”
“The Second Best Night of Your Life” is executive produced by Goldstein, Jeff Tomsic (who also directs), Matthew Vaughn and Molly Mandel.
