Cal Boyington, TV Agent and Producer, Dies at 53


Veteran TV agent and producer Michael Carlton “Cal” Boyington, whose credits included helping package MTV’s “The Osbournes,” has died. He was 53.

Boyington was found unresponsive at his home in San Pedro on Nov. 18. The TV talent and packaging agent founded his own firm, the Vital Artists Agency, in 2020. Before that, he was an unscripted agent at ICM Partners and head of alternative programming at Paradigm Talent Agency. As an agent, he aided in packaging MTV’s hit series “The Osbournes.”

Boyington also dedicated himself to producing, serving as an executive producer at Manolin Entertainment for about four years. Later, he worked at Rebel Entertainment Partners for around the same amount of time. As an executive producer, Boyington worked on projects including the Hulu docudrama “R5 Sons Alaska,” Discovery Channel’s “Bible Quest,” VH1’s “Cabo,” Comedy Central’s “Workaholics” and HDNet’s “The Baker Boys.”

A native of Vail, Colo., Boyington attended Battle Mountain High School before pursuing higher education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. 

Per his obituary, Boyington was said to be “known for his boundless energy, magnetic personality, and zest for life, Cal was truly the life of every party. He possessed an extraordinary ability to light up a room and bring joy to everyone he met. Those who knew Cal would attest to his unwavering passion for living each day to its fullest.” 

Boyington is survived by his parents Mike Boyington of São Paulo, Brazil and Travis “Penny” Farrar of Little Rock, Ark., and younger brother, B.G. Dickey of Colorado Springs, Colo.
