‘Cape Fear’ Series Casts CCH Pounder, Sets Morten Tyldum to Direct

CCH Pounder has joined the “Cape Fear” series at Apple TV+, with Morten Tyldum now onboard to executive produce and direct the pilot.

Pounder will appear alongside previously announced cast members Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson. The 10-episode series is based on both the John D. MacDonald novel “The Executioners,” which inspired Gregory Peck’s 1962 Universal Pictures feature “Cape Fear,” as well as the acclaimed 1991 remake directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Steven Spielberg, with Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte in the lead roles.

Per the official logline, “In ‘Cape Fear,’ a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) when Max Cady (Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.”

Pounder is a four-time Emmy nominee — one each for “The X-Files,” “The Shield,” “ER,” and “The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.” She is also known for her roles in shows like “NCIS: New Orleans,” “Sons of Anarchy,” and “Warehouse 13.” In film, she has starred in features such as the “Avatar” franchise, “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” and “Benny & Joon.”

She is repped by Mitchell K. Stubbs & Associates.

This marks Tyldum’s latest directing job at Apple, having previously helmed the episodes of the shows “Silo” and “Defending Jacob.” He directed all episodes of “Defending Jacob” and three on “Silo” to date, in addition to serving as executive producer on both shows. Tyldum also directed the pilots of “Jack Ryan” at Amazon and “Counterpart” at Starz. He was previously nominated for the Academy Award for best director for the film “The Imitation Game.”

He is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, Black Bear Management, Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, and Goodman Genow.

Both Adams and Bardem will executive produce in addition to starring in “Cape Fear.” Nick Antosca will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Antosca executive produces alongside Alex Hedlund under their Eat the Cat banner. Spielberg and Scorsese will also executive produce. Spielberg will executive produce via Amblin Television along with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. As mentioned, Tyldum will executive produce in addition to directing. UCP, where Antosca and Eat the Cat are under an overall deal, will produce.
