Comcast, Paramount Strike New Carriage Deal

Comcast and Paramount Global struck a new carriage pact that will keep Paramount-backed networks like CBS and Comedy Central on Comcast’s cable systems, even as the rise of streaming has lured subscribers away from linear television.

Financial terms of the deals, described as “multi-year,” were not disclosed.

Under terms of the agreement, Comcast will continue to carry CBS, BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network and other networks. Comcast subscribers will retain access to Paramount+, Pluto TV and BET+. And under the pact Comcast has the right to make Paramount+ with Showtime available to qualifying Xfinity customers.

“We are pleased to renew and expand upon our broad partnership with Comcast,” said Ray Hopkins, president of distribution for Paramount. “This new deal ensures that our dynamic portfolio of popular brands and premium programming continue to reach and entertain our valued audiences everywhere.”

Comcast wanted to “continue providing Xfinity customers with access to their traditional and streaming content across our industry-leading entertainment platforms,” said John Dixon, senior vice president of entertainment for Comcast Cable.  “This agreement gives us the ability to offer customers more choice and flexibility in what they want to watch and how they want to watch it.”
