Dan Abrams to Exit NewsNation Primetime Show

Dan Abrams, one of the first major names to join the primetime schedule of Nexstar Media’s NewsNation, plans to leave the roster early next year.

Abrams told viewers Thursday night that a range of business commitments would pull him away from doing “Dan Abrams Live,” the network’s regular 9 p.m. program. “I’ve reached the point where it’s impossible to keep devoting the time needed for this show while also running and growing my other businesses,” Abrams said at the end of his show.

The entrepreneur also runs several media businesses, including the media-industry-focused Mediaite and the spirts review site Bottle Raiders, all while doing a show for SiriusXM as well as NewsNation. Abrams also operates the Law & Crime Network and a weekend program, “On Patrol Live,” and contributes legal analysis to ABC News.

“I devote far more of my time to this show than anything else, and as hard as it is for me to admit, it’s just not practical to do this show all week while also running, and expanding, my businesses.”

He is expected to remain as a contributor to the network.

Abrams, who joined NewsNation in 2021, last signed a deal with NewsNation in 2023 that was said to be “multi year.” His “Dan Abrams Live” initially ran at 8 p.m., before moving to 9 p.m. to accommodate the arrival of Chris Cuomo.

The network, which also features Chris Cuomo, Elizabeth Vargas, Leland Vittert and Ashleigh Banfield, did not name a replacement. Abrams is expected to continue hosting the NewsNation program until February.
