Dario Argento’s ‘Phenomena’ Gets Series Adaptation at Titanus

Italy’s Titanus Production is heading to Series Mania with its latest project, horror teen drama “Phenomena – The Series,” adapted from Dario Argento’s classic 1985 film “Phenomena,” known as “Creepers” in the U.S. The project will participate in this year’s Co-Pro Pitching Sessions and promises to captivate potential partners with its unique blend of supernatural intrigue and high-stakes drama.

“Phenomena – The Series” is the brainchild of acclaimed creators Nicola Guaglianone and Menotti, who have reimagined the visionary world of Argento’s “Phenomena,” which starred Jennifer Connelly and was drastically recut before being distributed as “Creepers” in the U.S. and U.K. At first, the idea was to develop a sequel feature, but over time, the writers’ idea evolved into a long-form series that would bring new life to the original’s narrative.

The series adaptation follows Jennifer Corvino, an American student at a fencing academy in the glamorous Dolomites, who harbors a secret psychic link with insects. As Jennifer navigates the challenges of being the new girl at school, she must also confront a series of brutal murders. With her unique abilities, Jennifer must learn to harness her power to stop the killer, save her comrades, and survive.

Titanus Production was launched in 2021 as the production unit of Titanus S.p.A., a historic film company based in Rome and operating since 1904. With a catalog of over 400 titles, many of which are iconic pieces of cinema history, Titanus Production continues to champion talent and push the art-form forward under the leadership of Maria Grazia Saccà. The company is known for developing original concepts and drawing on intellectual properties from its extensive library to create fresh and far-reaching narratives.

Head of Production Simone Gandolfo and Development Costanza Giannelli will represent Titanus Production at Series Mania and pitch the series to prospective international partners and broadcasters.

“We have reimagined the visionary world of Dario Argento’s iconic film, bringing it to life with a fresh twist that blends the sinister undertone with the pop aesthetic,” the show’s producers told Variety of their latest project. “With the work of successful writers, Nicola Guaglianone and Menotti, our goal is to make a compelling series, with a bold, state-of-the-art aesthetic, honoring the original but speaking to a new generation.”
