David Jonsson to Star in Frank Ocean’s Directorial Debut Film


David Jonsson will star in the lead role of Frank Ocean‘s forthcoming directorial debut film, and has begun shooting the project in Mexico City. The independent film is currently untitled, and plot details remain under wraps.

The fast-rising British actor recently starred as the co-lead in Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Romulus” film alongside Cailee Spaeny, receiving rave reviews.

In 2024, he was named on both Variety’s 10 Actors To Watch and The Hollywood Reporter’s Next Gen Talent lists, and is nominated at the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards for the Rising Star Award, voted on by the public. He previously starred in “Rye Lane” for Searchlight Pictures, written and directed by Raine Allen Miller. The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for Outstanding British Film at the BAFTA Film Awards.

Jonsson will next star in “Wasteman” alongside Tom Blyth and in Stephen King’s “The Long Walk” opposite Cooper Hoffman for Lionsgate. He has recently been announced to star in Colman Domingo’s directorial debut “Scandalous” opposite Sydney Sweeney.

Jonsson starred in the short film “Pray,” which featured at the London Film Festival, as well as the critically acclaimed “Meat Puppet,” an award-winning short film by Eros V.

In television, Jonsson led Agatha Christie adaptation “Murder is Easy” for the BBC in 2023. Jonsson also played the role of Gus in the BBC/HBO’s hit series “Industry.”

His theater credits include “And Breathe” (The Almeida), for which he won best actor at the Black British Theatre Awards, “Mary Stuart” (The Almeida/West End) and “Don Juan in Soho” (Wyndham’s).

He is represented by CAA, United Agents in the U.K. and Track Publicity.
