Delta Air Lines announced that it will launch a non-stop service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Melbourne Airport (MEL) by the end of 2025.
The almost 16-hour flight, which will be serviced by the carrier’s fleet of Airbus A350-900s, will begin in December 2025.
The service will be operated three times a week, with an option to increase frequency.
Delta will become the first airline to fly the Airbus A350 non-stop from Melbourne and the United States, with the 275-seat aircraft fitted with Delta’s brand-new four-class cabin, including 40 premium Delta One suites.

“Delta’s new service to Melbourne reflects our commitment to connecting customers with the world’s most exciting destinations,” Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta said in a statement.
“As the largest carrier at LAX, we’re proud to provide a premium experience, whether customers are exploring Melbourne or connecting through our Los Angeles hub to destinations around the globe,” Baldoni added.
“Delta is one of the largest airlines in the world and is consistently rated one of North America’s best carriers, so we’re thrilled to have them adding Melbourne to their network because of the opportunities it presents for Victorians and Victorian business,” Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said.
This new route makes Melbourne Delta’s third nonstop destination in Australia, joining Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) and Brisbane Airport (BNE), and expands Delta’s reach in the South Pacific to five cities, including Auckland Airport (AKL) and Papeete Fa’a’ā International Airport (PPT) in Tahiti.
