Diane Warren on Losing Best Original Song Oscar for the 16th Time

Diane Warren on Losing Best Original Song Oscar for the 16th Time

Diane Warren didn’t let her Oscar losing streak get in the way of having some fun Sunday night.

Despite not going home with a gold statuette for best original song for “Journey” from Netflix’s “The Six Triple Eight,” the prolific songwriter attended the Vanity Fair party in Beverly Hills. The loss marked her 16th time being snubbed for the Academy Award. (“El Mal” from “Emilia Pérez” won on Sunday.)

“I’m consistent as fuck,” Warren cracked when I caught with her on the Vanity Fair red carpet in Beverly Hills. “You know, it is what it is. I’m happy to be here.”

Warren’s ensemble at the Oscars included “Make It Fucking Happen” emblazoned on the inside of her jacket collar.

She said, “I’m the Terminator of the Oscars — I’ll be back. That’s in my Arnold Schwarzenegger voice. I’m coming back. You can’t get rid of me.”

Warren said she will get back to work on Monday morning. “This isn’t going to slow me down…I thought I had a chance this time. It didn’t go that way, but I’m still here.”

Warren was honored with an honorary Oscar, presented by Cher, at the Governors Awards in 2022.

Warren also expressed her disappointment that the Oscar producers nixed performances of the best original song nominees during Sunday’s ceremony. “It would have been nice to hear the songs,” she said.

H.E.R., who performs “Journey” on the “The Six Triple Eight” soundtrack, told me Saturday night that she was “bummed” not getting the chance to showcase the song at the Oscars.

“It’s kind of weird, but I’m just happy to be there,” H.E.R said on the carpet at the Chanel and Charles Finch pre-Oscars dinner at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hill Hotel, “Performing or not, the song’s gonna live on, whether we perform it on the Oscar stage or not. I was a little bummed because I look forward to those performances, not just being in it, you know, but it’s totally fine. It’s still gonna be a great show, I think.”
