Dominican carrier Arajet has launched flights to the United States with an inaugural service between Las Américas International Airport (SDQ), Santo Domingo, and Miami International Airport (MIA) on April 14, 2025.
The Miami service will initially be operated four times a week but will increase to a daily frequency in June 2025. The service is operated by Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, the only type currently in Arajet’s fleet.
Also in June 2025, Arajet plans to launch a daily nonstop service between Miami and Punta Cana (PUJ), a major tourist destination in the Dominican Republic.
Privately-owned Arajet launched in 2022 as a rebrand of a previous airline called Dominican Wings. It operates on a low-cost carrier model across the Americas, with its network stretching all the way from Argentina and Chile to Canada. Until 2025, however, it had refrained from entering the US market.
This changed after the US and the Dominican Republic signed an Open Skies agreement in December 2024, allowing for the unrestricted establishment of new routes and frequencies between the two countries.
In view of the new regulatory environment, Arajet has developed plans to significantly expand its US presence over the coming months.
On June 4, 2025, it will launch a new route between Santo Domingo and San Juan de Puerto Rico, the US-associated territory in the Caribbean, followed, on June 16, 2025, by a four-weekly service to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Other routes are expected to follow as the Dominican airline expands its fleet with the arrival of more Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
According to Cirium data, Arajet will be competing in the Miami (MIA) to Santo Domingo (SDQ) market with American Airlines, the operator with by far the largest capacity on the route, and SKYHigh Dominicana, another Dominican carrier.
