Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines have activated a strategic codeshare partnership, providing additional travel options across Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
This marks the first step in the partnership established between Etihad and Ethiopian in March 2025, aimed at “unlocking greater travel opportunities for passengers across both networks,” Etihad announced in a statement on June 9, 2025.
“By leveraging our combined networks, we are unlocking seamless travel opportunities between Africa and Asia, Australia, and the Middle East,” Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer. “Easy connections via Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa, will enhance flexibility, boosting trade and tourism, and delivering unparalleled travel experiences to guests of both airlines.”
Ethiopian will begin operations from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) to Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) on July 15, 2025. Additionally, Etihad Airways will introduce daily flights to Addis Ababa starting October 8, 2025.
The codeshare partnership will allow travelers to simplify their journeys by making a single booking with one check-in process at the beginning, along with the convenience of having their luggage sent directly to their final destination.
Under this partnership, Etihad passengers will have access to Ethiopian Airlines’ African network, connecting via Addis Ababa to 55 locations in 33 countries. These destinations include Entebbe, Kinshasa, Kigali, Lusaka, Harare and Victoria Falls.
At the same time, Ethiopian Airlines passengers can book itineraries connecting to Etihad-operated flights through Abu Dhabi, with further service to 20 major destinations in Asia, Australia, and the Middle East including Sydney, Krabi, Colombo and Phnom Penh.
