Finnair passengers continue to face major disruptions as the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) carries out industrial action at Helsinki Airport (HEL).
The latest strikes are affecting ground operations on June 2 and June 4, 2025. One walkout already took place on May 30, forcing Finnair to cancel dozens of flights. More flight cancellations are confirmed for June 2, with further disruption expected on June 4.
It is estimated that these actions will affect the travel plans of around 3,600 passengers.
According to a Finnair statement, the strikes are impacting essential airport services such as baggage handling, cargo, catering, aircraft maintenance, and customer service. The airline warned that, as a result, delays and cancellations are likely.
“We recommend packing the most essential items, like medicines, in your carry-on baggage, following the carry-on baggage allowance,” the statement reads.
“Please be prepared for possible congestion at our service points and delays in baggage delivery at Helsinki Airport,” it concludes.
Finnair also warned that, in addition to flight cancellations, onboard services will be affected. Between June 2 and June 5, the airline’s domestic and European flights will offer limited catering. Passengers in Economy Class will receive only water and a cookie, while Business Class passengers will also be served coffee and tea, but no meals. The carrier noted that onboard sales will be suspended. However, intercontinental flights will continue with regular meal service.
This is not the first wave of industrial action at HEL airport. Earlier in May, the IAU staged a four-hour strike that affected nearly 7,500 passengers and led to the cancellation of around 100 Finnair flights. Another strike followed on May 16, causing further disruption.
