Five people died in Finland when two helicopters collided mid-flight on May 17, 2025.
The accident happened near Eura airfield, in southwestern Finland, around midday local time.
The two helicopters had taken off from Tallinn, Estonia, and were heading to an aviation event in Piikajärvi Airfield, near the town of Kokemäki, in Western Finland.
Both helicopters were of the same model, the four-seater Robinson R44 Raven, and were privately owned and registered in Estonia and Austria respectively.
Both helicopters appeared to have been flying on a parallel course at a height of around 300 meters and were preparing to descend as they crashed onto each other.
According to Finnish authorities, there were no survivors. Debris was found scattered over a wooden area, which was cordoned off by police. The two helicopters fell to the ground within 100 meters of each other with at least one of them catching fire upon impacting the ground.
It has been reported that the victims were Estonian citizens, among them the chairman of the board of Mapri Ehitus, one of Estonia’s largest construction firms, along with his wife.
The investigation into the causes of the accident may take between nine months and a year, stated the Finnish Safety Investigation Authority.
