Flight Sim Coach unveiled its Private Pilot Prep System, which combines instruction with “modern simulation technology to help students maximize the effectiveness of their actual flight training hours,” according to company officials.
With private pilot training costs often exceeding $15,000 and weather frequently disrupting lessons, aspiring pilots are seeking ways to make their flight training more efficient, company officials added.
“Students can repeatedly practice procedures, communications, and basic maneuvers at home for a fraction of the cost of practicing in an aircraft,” said Mike Catalfamo, founder of Flight Sim Coach and a certified flight instructor. “While most home simulator time isn’t loggable toward certification requirements, our program allows students to focus more of their valuable flight time on safety-critical skills that are best experienced in the air, instead of procedures that are easily learned on the ground.”

Students using the system often incorporate virtual reality headsets and live air traffic control services in their home simulators for an immersive practice environment.
Survey data from the Flight Simulation Association has shown that pilots who used home flight simulation during their training completed their private pilot certificate in 5.5 fewer hours on average compared to those who didn’t.
“That represents a potential saving of over $1,000 on total training costs,” said Catalfamo. “More importantly, students arrive at the aircraft better prepared and more confident.”
