Fusion Entertainment has signed veteran documentary filmmaker Katy Chevigny for management on the heels of the world premiere of her first narrative feature, “The Easy Kind,” at the Telluride Film Festival.
Chevigny has produced or directed over a dozen documentary features and series over the course of her career, and she’s the co-founder of the long-running independent production company Big Mouth Productions. She won an Emmy in 2023 for directing two episodes of “Home” for A24 / AppleTV+. She also co-wrote and co-directed (with Ross Kauffman) the documentary film “E-Team,” for which she was nominated for two Emmys. With Marilyn Ness, she has produced several films, including the Netflix Original documentaries “Becoming,” which was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards, and Kirsten Johnson’s Emmy-winning “Dick Johnson Is Dead.” She also co-directed “Deadline” with Johnson. Chevigny is married to Jack Smith, the U.S. attorney who led two Justice Department criminal investigations into Donald Trump.
Chevigny marks the latest addition to Fusion Entertainment, the management and strategic advisory company founded by Adam Kersh and Chris Evans. Additional filmmaker clients include Amy Seimetz (“The Girlfriend Experience”), Sean Baker (“Anora”) and Ira Sachs (“Passages”).
“The Easy Kind” stars country singer Elizabeth Cook as a fictionalized version of herself, a musician pursuing her craft while dealing with the reality of middle age and an industry that never fully embraced her talent.
Indiewire praised the film out of Telluride, noting that Chevigny’s “documentary background also adds that kind of touch to the film, which so often feels like we’re watching something, well, true.”
Chevigny became interested in Cook while living in Nashville in 2015 and watching her perform at a weekly residency at a dive bar. She worked closely with Cook to create her character in “The Easy Kind.” The supporting cast includes Susie Essman, David Letterman, Karen Allen, Charles Esten, and Catherine Curtin (also represented by Fusion).
