“Gavin & Stacey” fans are set to rejoice as the BBC unveils a first look image of the long-awaited special reunion.
The image features the show’s lead quartet, James Corden, Ruth Jones, Matthew Horne and Joanna Page.
Corden returns as Smithy, Jones as Nessa, Horne as Gavin and Page as Stacey for the upcoming special. The show, which was created by Corden and Jones, first premiered in 2007 before going on to become a cult hit.
Corden and Jones write and exec produce the 90-minute special, which will be broadcast in the U.K. on Christmas Day on BBC One and iPlayer. Christine Gernon directs.
“It’s five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her,” reads the logline for the special. “And a lot has happened since then. In Barry, Bryn’s packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex; Stacey and Gavin are looking for new ways to spice up their seventeen year marriage and Gwen is behaving most strangely. Nessa’s started a new business venture and Neil the Baby’s about to begin an apprenticeship with his dad.”
“Over in Billericay Pam is stressing out at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by a newly retired Mick practicing his golf swings in the living room and there have been more ups and downs in Pete and Dawn’s relationship.”
The special is produced by Tidy and Fulwell73 production for BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Sarah Fraser produces. Executive poducers are Ruth Jones, Rhys John and David Peet for Tidy Productions and James Corden, Leo Pearlman and Ben Winston for Fulwell73 Productions.
It was commissioned by BBC chief content officer Charlotte Moore and BBC director of comedy commissioning Jon Petrie. Emma Lawson is the commissioning editor for the BBC.
BBC Studios is handling international distribution.
