Global Airlines reacts to recent rumors about its future

British Airbus A380 startup Global Airlines has hit back at recent reports that have circulated about its future in a statement designed to dispel some of the rumors.

The carrier, headed by entrepreneur James Asquith, described some of the news spreading as “complete rubbish” and plans to publish a ‘MythBusters’ guide in the future to prevent misinformation spreading.

“It is quite clear from much of what we are seeing and reading that some have decided to take huge speculation and repeat it as fact. It’s a shame when this happens because it’s super misleading and the folk reading it can get a bit overexcited about what is actually complete rubbish,” said a spokesperson for Global Airlines.

In the past week there have been reports that Global Airlines was pivoting to aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) operations and that a Saudia Arabian company was investing in the carrier.

The statement published on June 3, 2025, said that Global Airlines is “not planning to change any strategy to become an ACMI operator”.

“We still have our eye on the ultimate goal of becoming a scheduled airline in the future, but we recognize there are still a lot of things to tackle on that journey,” the statement read.

The airline said it was “interesting to see the speculation” about future funding but addressed the point by adding that it is “talking to many different organizations” about this.

Following Global Airlines’ first commercial transatlantic flight on May 15, 2025, there was criticism over the number of people on the flight being low, however the statement said it “never planned to be full or even close to it”.

“That was not the point of them. We didn’t do any marketing but simply reached out to our community online and in the wider aviation circles. We wanted to test our service and products, and we wanted to focus on our premium cabins,” said Global Airlines.

The company added: “We succeeded on all fronts and if we had more passengers we would never have got to test all the elements we wanted to try out. Perfect numbers for us!”

Global Airlines acknowledged that the recent speculation had given it food for thought and in future it would learn to “hold back”.

“Whatever we do say will be held against us later, so we only want to say it once we know it for sure. For now, we will hold our nerve and hope you can maintain your patience,” the statement added.
