‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Sequel Series ‘The Testaments’ Casts Mattea Conforti

“The Handmaid’s Tale” followup “The Testaments” is continuing to build out its cast. Variety has learned that Mattea Conforti has joined the Hulu show as a series regular.

The series, based on the Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, is set 15 years after the events of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Conforti joins previously announced cast members Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Ann Dowd, and Rowan Blanchard.

Per the official description, the series follows a new generation of young women in Gilead. “For these young women, growing up in Gilead is all they have ever known, having no tangible memories of the outside world prior to their indoctrination into this life. Facing the prospect of being married off and living a life of servitude, they will be forced to search for allies, both new and old, to help in their fight for freedom and the life they deserve.”

Conforti will star as Becka, described as “a girl from humble origins, who attends school with Gilead’s elite. As she comes of age, she starts to question whether she wants the life she’s being groomed for.”

Conforti previously appeared in the films “The Many Saints of Newark” as well as “Frozen II,” “The Viper Club,” and “3 Generations.” She has starred in shows such as “NOS4A2” at AMC and “Power” at Starz.

She is repped by Paradigm and Mara Entertainment

Like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Testaments” is created by Bruce Miller, who also serves as showrunner. He executive produces alongside Warren Littlefield of The Littlefield Company and Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures. Mike Baker will direct the first three episodes and executive produce. MGM Television is the studio.
