Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort is proud to announce the renovation of its iconic Rainbow Tower.
The extensive makeover will modernize guest room interiors, corridors and amenities while showcasing the work of local artists, all within a design that preserves and celebrates the rainbow theme that has made the Rainbow Tower one of Waikiki’s most recognizable landmarks.
Kai, meaning sea or sea water in Hawaiian, reflects the deep respect the people of Hawaii hold for the ocean as a source of life, inspiration, and beauty. The new, aptly named Rainbow Kai guestrooms feature ocean tones inspired by Waikiki’s vibrant seaside palette, playful pops of color, and Pacific island textures like carved wood and woven fibers for a warm, contemporary feel. Guests can also enjoy new one-bedroom suites with stunning views of the azure Pacific stretching beyond Diamond Head.
The first group of completed rooms are available to book at this link: Rainbow Kai | Hilton Hawaiian Village.
A key part of the project is Hilton Hawaiian Village’s partnership with local artists, celebrating Hawaii’s vibrant artistic community. The redesigned rooms now showcase art from acclaimed Hawaii-based artists such as Kristen Reyno of Lola Pilar, Heather Almeda, Tamara Brink, Malie Moana, Steven Kean, and many more. The art pieces, rich in multicolor themes, pay homage to the tower’s iconic Rainbow Mural.
The two-sided Rainbow Mural – which spans both sides of the tower – was known as the world’s tallest mosaic when it was first dedicated in 1968, and was masterminded by the legendary artist Millard Sheets. Over the years, Hilton Hawaiian Village’s Rainbow Tower has become synonymous with Waikiki.
