IndiGo has doubled its commitment to the Airbus A350-900, placing a firm order for 30 additional wide-body aircraft. This brings the airline’s total confirmed A350 order to 60.
The announcement came on June 2 during the IATA Annual General Meeting in Delhi. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers described the move as a “strategic step” in advancing the airline’s long-haul ambitions. The latest order builds on IndiGo’s 2023 agreement for 30 A350s, which also included purchase rights for 70 more. With this latest decision, IndiGo is converting 30 of those options into firm orders, further strengthening its future wide-body fleet.
The airline expects to receive its first A350 in 2027. Deliveries of the initial 30 aircraft will continue through the early 2030s, with the additional 30 arriving afterward.
While a detailed deployment plan for the A350s has yet to be revealed, Elbers noted that initial routes would likely include European destinations, with other regions also under consideration.Even before the A350s enter service, IndiGo is moving forward with its long-haul plans. In July, the airline will launch flights from Delhi to Amsterdam and Manchester, operated by wet-leased Boeing 787-9s from Norse Atlantic Airways.
Pending regulatory approvals, IndiGo also plans to expand its European network to include London, Copenhagen, and Athens. The London and Copenhagen routes will be served by the leased 787s, while Athens will be operated using the Airbus A321XLR, which is expected to begin arriving by the end of fiscal year 2026.
