Prime Video has unveiled the trailer for Justin Kurzel‘s limited series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” an adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s eponymous, Man Booker Prize-winning novel and starring Jacob Elordi in a lead role as Dorrigo Evans.
The decade-spanning series filmed in New South Wales, Australia, and charts the life of Evans, a medical officer who becomes a Japanese prisoner of war and is haunted by his passionate, yet impossible love affair with Amy Mulvaney (Odessa Young), his uncle’s wife, for the rest of his life. Penned by Shaun Grant (“Nitram,” “Snowtown”), “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” then portrays him as a returned war hero who becomes a revered surgeon.
The buzzed about limited Australian series held its world premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, where Kurzel and Elordi were in town to promote the show. It garnered one of the warmest ovation of the festival.
All five episodes of “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” will premiere in Australia, New Zealand and Canada on April 18 on Prime Video. Presented by Amazon MGM Studios, the series was produced by Curio Pictures.
The international cast is completed by Ciarán Hinds (“Belfast”), Olivia DeJonge (“Elvis”), Heather Mitchell (“Love Me”), Show Kasamatsu, Thomas Weatherall (“Heartbreak High”), and Simon Baker (“Limbo”).
“The Narrow Road to the Deep North” is produced by Curio Pictures, and distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television. Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner from Curio Pictures executive produce. Richard Flanagan, Shaun Grant and Justin Kurzel are also executive producers with Alexandra Taussig serving as producer.
Principal production funding is provided by Screen Australia, with assistance from the NSW Government through Screen NSW’s Made in NSW and PDV Funds.
“The Narrow Road to the Deep North” is one of the 30 Australian Original series that have been commissioned by Prime Video since 2019.
