Aptly titled, “John & Paul: A Love Story in Songs,” the newest Beatles book delves into the music industry’s most iconic songwriting duo, whose tumultuous relationship has long been defined by an intensity and complexity that inevitably seeped into their music.

In the 448-page biography, writer Ian Leslie attempts to shatter the endless myths that have followed the pair since the Beatles heydey in the ’60s through the group’s disbandment in 1970 to modern day. Leslie drew on recently released footage and recordings for his research, offering an intimate and insightful new look at two of the greatest icons in music history.
The book comes out amidst news of Mendes’s casting for his long-awaited Beatles project, which will consist of four movies set to release at the same time in April, 2028. At CinemaCon on Tuesday morning, the filmmaker confirmed the much-speculated casting: Paul Mescal is playing Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn will portray George Harrison, Barry Keoghan will star as Ringo Starr and Harris Dickinson will put his spin on John Lennon.
The film is also the first narrative feature to be granted music rights to the Beatles’ extensive catalog of hits such as “Strawberry Fields,” “Let It Be,” “I Am the Walrus,” “Yellow Submarine” and many, many more.
