KLM to offer 4% more capacity in 2025 as airline reveals full summer schedule

KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines has revealed it will operate to 161 global destinations during the summer of 2025, with 95 cities in Europe and 66 intercontinental destinations seeing the Dutch carrier’s all-blue aircraft. For the northern summer IATA scheduling season, which runs from March 30, 2025, until October 25, 2025, the carrier will offer 4% capacity overall across its network compared to the same season in 2024. However, the airline has stated that its expansion is being frustrated by the lack of aircraft spare parts as well as delays in recruiting and training pilots.

KLM’s intercontinental network will be expanded over the 2025 summer season with the addition of services to San Diego in the United States, Georgetown in Guyana, and Hyderabad in India. KLM will also continue to fly to Portland on the US West Coast after this service was introduced initially as a winter 2024/25-only service.

During the upcoming summer, the carrier will be adding three new 787-10 widebodied aircraft to its fleet, bringing the total number of the type to be operated to 14 airplanes. The airline operates these aircraft in a three-class configuration featuring 38 business class seats, 28 in premium economy, and 252 in economy class.

Elsewhere, KLM will be adding frequencies to a number of its existing routes. The airline will be increasing services on its combined flight to Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to daily from June 2025, up from five times a week in the summer of 2024. This equates to almost 30% more seats as a year-on-year comparison.

KLM will also operate direct services between Amsterdam and Osaka in Japan up to five times a week from April. Las Vegas in the US will receive a daily flight from Amsterdam, an increase compared to the five flights per week in 2024. The airline will also operate daily to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, maintaining its winter schedule. Lastly, on the long-haul side, Edmonton in Canada will receive KLM flights five times each week, with six weekly flights during the summer peak period. In total, KLM will be providing around 10% more flights to North America in the summer of 2025 compared to the previous year.

Closer to KLM’s home in the Netherlands, in Europe, the carrier will be opening bookings for services to three new destinations for the summer of 2025. Ljubljana in Slovenia, Exeter in the UK, and Biarritz in France will also be served by KLM for the first time. The carrier will also be concentrating its flights to Milan from Amsterdam at the city’s downtown Linate Airport (LIN), which is more conveniently located for travelers accessing the city center. The carrier will cease serving the city’s other airport at Milan-Malpensa, which is due to become a Lufthansa-ITA stronghold following their merger earlier in 2025.

On the short-haul fleet side, KLM hopes to receive five additional factory-fresh Airbus A321neo narrowbodies from the manufacturer in the coming months, doubling the number of the type already operated.

Elsewhere across Europe, KLM will be increasing some frequencies on certain routes. The carrier will operate to Belfast-City Airport (BHD) twice a day, four times daily to Porto in Portugal, an extra daily flight to Barcelona in Spain, and for the spring and autumn seasons only, three times a day to Split in Croatia. There will also be extra flights to Krakow and an extra daily flight to Poznan, both in Poland.

Thanks to these additional European services to Porto and Split, KLM says it will be offering almost 25% more seats to the popular destinations in Portugal and Croatia compared to the summer schedule of 2024.
