Superman and his canine companion have received the Funko Pop treatment, just in time for James Gunn‘s highly anticipated take on DC‘s storied franchise, starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel.
Like the film itself, which teased footage at CinemaCon this month, the star of the lineup is Superman’s pup Krypto, a new character introduced by Gunn and inspired by his own wild rescue dog. In the trailer, Krypto is shown licking a badly battered Superman, then dragging him to the safety of his icy headquarters, the Fortress of Solitude, where a crew of robots ministers to the fallen hero. After he’s back on his feet, Krypto can’t stop nipping at his master’s heels.
The Funko release also includes Pops of other beloved characters from the superhero franchise, including Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan in Gunn’s version, and a menacing Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), who in miniature form, is thankfully just holding a LuthorCorp mug and not brandishing a Kryptonite-loaded pistol.
In addition to the vinyl figures, the lineup also includes Jumbo and keychain versions of Superman, for $39.99 and $4.99, respectively. They will be available to purchase on the Funko website and Amazon staring April 18.
Gunn’s “Superman,” formerly titled “Superman: Legacy,” will hit theaters on July 11. It’s the first film released under the new DC Studios overseen by Gunn and Peter Safran. Corenswet stars alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner the Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and more.
