‘Last Samurai’ Producer Ted Field Boards ‘To Love a Narcissist’

Veteran producer Ted Field, whose credits include “Cocktail,” “The Last Samurai,” “Jumanji,” and Amazon’s “Wheel of Time,” has signed on as executive producer for the indie psychological drama “To Love a Narcissist” from director Raffaello Degruttola.

The relationship drama from Contro Vento Films stars Lyndsey Marshal (“Rome,” “The Hours”), Degruttola himself (“Ted Lasso,” “Rush”), Stephen Campbell Moore (“Masters of The Air,” “Downton Abbey”) and Sule Rimi (“The Day of The Jackal,” “Dr Who”). Sadie Frost joined the project as an executive producer last year. Bill Bossert and Lyndsey Marshal also serve as executive producers on the film.

“Trust is weaponized in ‘To Love a Narcissist,’” according to the film’s synopsis. “Charlotte and Roberto are in love. The film portrays the delicate interplay orchestrated by the secret narcissist. Layers of manipulation and aching vulnerability are exposed until the fragility of trust is swallowed by the enduring impact of betrayal.”

Field was introduced to the project through a mutual friend and found himself immediately captivated. “As I started watching, I found I couldn’t stop,” Field said. “The writing is clever, the cast and their performances are compelling and the way the story is told is unique. This film stands up alongside million-dollar productions in the same genre.”

The producer will help drive distribution efforts as the film prepares to make its festival circuit debut this summer, beginning with the Ariano International Film Festival in July.

The project comes from Degruttola’s Contro Vento Films, a boutique production company embracing hyperrealism with cinematic roots tracing back to Italian neorealism of the 1940s. Degruttola’s previous feature, “Transference: A Bipolar Love Story,” has accumulated 27 million YouTube views after going viral online.

“I’m very happy to be working with Raff and Sadie Frost on ‘To Love a Narcissist’ as an executive producer, supporting indie movies and helping filmmakers find a place for films that truly deserve to be seen,” Field said.
