Lauren Daigle stepped onto the Caesars Superdome field at Sunday’s Super Bowl in New Orleans to sing “America the Beautiful.” The former Louisiana State University student performed alongside fellow Louisianian, Trombone Shorty (aka Troy Andrews), and a pair of instrumentalists.
Daigle and Shorty’s rendition was true to New Orleans, opting for a lively brass band instead of the anthem’s demand for strings.
In an interview with NOLA.com ahead of the Super Bowl, Daigle said Trombone Shorty asked Daigle if she could join him for the performance, seeing that the pair previously collaborated for Daigle’s 2024 music video for “These Are The Days,” and she appeared on his album “Lifted.”
At 33 years-old, Daigle is a two-time Grammy winner and contemporary Christian music singer-songwriter known for blurring the lines between spiritual lyricism and pop music. Songs including “Trust in You” and “Hold on to Me” are staples of Christian radio, and claims four Top 40 albums with her highest-charting LP being 2018’s “Look Up Child.”
Originally from Lakes Charles, Louisiana, Daigle rose to fame with her album, “How Can It Be,” which claimed a No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart in 2015. Her most recent, full-length and original album is a self-titled set released in 2023 that included the chart-topping song, “Thank God I Do.” But in recent months, Daigle has also shared a live album called “Sessions” comprised of recordings captured at SiriusXM.
Daigle and Trombone Shorty’s inclusion is part of an authentically New Orleans-based lineup for this year’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, with fellow Louisiana natives Jon Batiste and Ledisi also on the lineup.
