The “Legally Blonde” prequel at Amazon Prime Video has added Tom Everett Scott as a series regular, Variety has learned.
Scott will appear in alongside series lead lead Lexi Minetree as well as June Diane Raphael. As previously announced, the show will follow Elle Woods (Minetree) during her high school years. Per the official logline, it details her “life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first ‘Legally Blonde’ film.”
Scott will play Wyatt, Elle’s dad. Raphael will star as Eva, Elle’s mom.
The role keeps Scott in business with Prime Video, as he currently appears in the streamer’s YA series “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” which is ending with its third season. He is also known for shows like “I’m Sorry,” “13 Reasons Why,” “Southland,” “Scream,” and “Reign.” He first broke out with his role in the cult classic film “That Thing You Do” and has since starred in films such as Dead Man on Campus,” “Boiler Room,” “La La Land,” and “Clouds.”
He is repped by Gersh and John Carrabino Management.
“Elle” was originally greenlit at Amazon back in May 2024. Laura Kittrell created the series and serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter executive produce via Hello Sunshine along with Marc Platt. Jason Moore will direct the first two episodes. Amazon MGM Studios will produce.
The first “Legally Blonde” film was a box office success, grossing over $140 million worldwide following its release in 2001. The sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde” was released in 2003. A direct-to-video third film came out in 2009, though Witherspoon did not star but did serve as a producer. A stage musical based on the first film debuted on Broadway in 2007, receiving multiple Tony and Drama Desk nominations.
