LOT Polish Airlines has selected Airbus for a new regional fleet with an order for up to 84 A220s at Paris Air Show 2025.
Airbus beat off strong competition from Embraer to secure the firm order for 20 A220-100s and 20 A220-300s, with the option to purchase 44 more planes in the future.
The Airbus A220 fleet will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines with the new aircraft scheduled to be delivered between 2027 and 2031. The A220-300s will begin to arrive first.
“While making the choice today, we are thinking about the future. Airbus A220 family aircraft that will start joining the LOT Polish Airlines fleet in 2027 provide us with new growth and expansion opportunities that serve as the cornerstones of our development strategy,” said Michał Fijoł, President & CEO, LOT Polish Airlines on June 16, 2025.
He added: “Designed with the comfort of our passengers in mind, these modern and fuel-efficient planes will allow us to compete on the European sky, to strengthen our position of the preferred carrier in this part of Europe.”
The new Airbus fleet will first replace LOT’s Embraer E1s, followed by its E2s. The deal marks the first time LOT has selected Airbus aircraft as part of its fleet modernization.
In the configuration ordered by LOT, the Airbus A220 will be equipped with Recaro seats that are manufactured in Poland.
The seats will offer a number of additional convenience features, such as a mobile device holder, 60W USB-C ports to rapidly charge mobile phones or laptops.
“This order for 40 Airbus A220s marks a historic milestone as we officially welcome LOT Polish Airlines into the Airbus family. The A220 Family will be instrumental in LOT’s fleet modernisation and network expansion strategy with the A220-100 and A220-300 being the ideal combination for their needs,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business.
He added: “We look forward to working hand-in-hand with LOT, leveraging Airbus global expertise to support its renewal program and ensure the A220’s seamless integration.”
Depending on cabin configuration, the A220-100 serves the 100-135 seat market, while the larger A220-300 is tailored for the 120-160 seat market.
At the end of May 2025, the A220 had secured over 900 firm orders from more than 30 customers worldwide, with over 415 aircraft already delivered.
