Lufthansa announced that its Lufthansa Express Rail program is now valid for use on local buses, trams, underground and suburban railway.
Previously, the program only included travel between German train stations and to Frankfurt Airport (FRA). Now, passengers can use the pass to travel to and from their homes to the airport using the Deutsche Bahn (DB) City-Ticket.
The service is now available on all Lufthansa Express Rail destinations except Siegburg and Basel. Lufthansa customers can now use local public transportation in 26 German cities before and after their flight, using their boarding pass.
The Lufthansa Express Rail is a partnership between the German flag carrier and Deutsche Bahn aimed at making travel as seamless as possible for customers.
Using one ticket on land and air travel means that passengers will only have to check in once for land transportation and flight. This also gives customers a guarantee that in the event of delays and cancellations, passengers will be automatically rebooked on the next flight or train.
The carrier said demand for Lufthansa Express Rail has risen continuously in recent years since it began the program 20 years ago. In 2024, around 500,000 passengers used the service for their arrival and departure at Frankfurt Airport.
