Mark Hamill Evacuated Malibu ‘So Last-Minute’ During L.A. Fires

“Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill is among those evacuating their homes as fires continue to break out across Los Angeles, causing more than 30,000 people to flee the Pacific Palisades as well as parts of Malibu and Santa Monica.

Hamill posted an update on his Instagram on Tuesday night, writing that at 7 p.m. he “evacuated Malibu so last-minute there were small fires on both sides of the road as we approached PCH.” At 8:15 p.m., he and wife Marilou York and dog Trixie arrived safely to their daughter Chelsea’s house in Hollywood. In the post, Hamill called the blaze the “most horrific fire since ’93” and urged his followers to stay safe.

“This Is Us” star Mandy Moore also evacuated her home, giving an update via her Instagram Story that she was safe with “kids, dogs and cats” and “praying and grateful for the first responders.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy” hero Chris Pratt dedicated a post to L.A. firefighters and others responding to the emergency, writing: “Please send prayers and strength tonight to everyone in Los Angeles affected by these devastating fires … Thank you to the brave firefighters and first responders who are working tirelessly to protect lives, homes and wildlife as they battle fast-moving wildfire fueled by fierce winds. You are true heroes, and we are endlessly grateful for your sacrifice and courage. Let’s all come together to support one another during this tough time.”

Billie Eilish also shared resources on her Instagram Story, reposting the L.A. Fire Department’s link to updates on the fire. “What’s going on in L.A. right now is sooo scary and devastating,” she wrote.

Kaley Cuoco called for prayers on her Story for the “incredible first responders, all the homes being lost, loved ones and animals.” She added that “this is so heart-wrenching to witness what’s happening in our backyard.”

“The Hills” stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt documented themselves evacuating their home on social media before sharing on Snapchat that their house had burnt down. “Update: I’m watching our house burn down on the security cameras,” Pratt said.

The fire in the Pacific Palisades started around 10:30 a.m. near Piedra Morada Drive, according to the LAFD, and has already burned through 2,900 acres in the area. Strong winds, which are expected to last through Wednesday and could reach up to 100 miles per hour, caused the fire to spread and triggered evacuation orders in parts of Malibu and Santa Monica. Later on Tuesday, another fire broke out in the Eaton Canyon area of Altadena, and residents of Altadena and parts of Pasadena were evacuated.
