“Saturday Night Live” again looked back at the week in politics in the cold open, focusing on a reportedly explosive Trump cabinet meeting where Marco Rubio and Elon Musk got into a shouting match.
Donald Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, attempts to broker a truce with Secretary of State Rubio, played by Marcello Hernandez. “Now your name is Mark Ruby,” Trump told him, after proclaiming that English is the official national language of the country.
“But what I don’t accept is Elon having total access to our government,” Rubio said. “Planes are crashing, and he keeps trying to fire air traffic control.”
“Well, Elon knows a lot about air travel. Okay?” Trump replied. “He runs Space X, which is doing incredible things in terms of explosions, with regard to rocket debris.”
Trump said Musk gave him some great stuff to talk about at the State of the Union address, like “You know they’re spending $8 million on making mice transgender. Can you believe that? Probably not, because it’s not true, but I said it, and it got a big laugh — and that is addictive.”
Trump turned out to be a “White Lotus” fan, saying, “But while I’ve been causing chaos, I’ve been working behind the scenes, and I am very close to a deal with the Panamanian government to retake the Panama Canal. I don’t want it anymore. Seems like a hassle. What I really love is Thailand, okay? Because I’m watching ‘White Lotus,’ and it looks beautiful. How about the girl with the teeth?”
Mike Myers as Musk popped in for the home stretch and Rubio asked why he’s doing a funny little dance.
“I can’t believe this is the guy you’ve given access to the entire government. He’s not an elected official. If you got to insult each other, at least make them good,” Rubio said. “Something like Elon. How do you have 20 kids? But I’ve never seen you with the chick, just dudes named Donkey Dog and Boner King, you know?
In voiceover, Myers’ Musk channeled Dr. Evil, whining that “A lot of people seem to really hate me. My Tesla stock is crashing, and my personal net worth just dropped by $100 billion.”
Trump then handed out some orders, saying, “Marco, get your budget under control. Elon, stay in your lane. You’re not the boss, but I paid you $300 million and that’s why you’re the boss.”
Lady Gaga, who released her seventh studio album “Mayhem” this week, is hosting the show for the second time and serving as musical guest for the fifth time.
