Mark Eydelshteyn has been cast in Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video‘s “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” Variety has learned.
Eydelshteyn is the first confirmed cast member for the new season and will appear in the role of Mr. Smith. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine had starred in Season 1 in the title roles, though Variety reported in May that they were not expected to return for the sophomore outing. Glover remains onboard as an executive producer and co-creator of the series.
“Mr. and Mrs. Smith” is a reimagining of the 2005 film of the same name that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Per the official series description:
“In the first season of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith,’ two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spyagency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone inManhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith.Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationshipmilestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings foreach other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”
Eydelshteyn recently starred in the critically acclaimed film “Anora” from Sean Baker, which won the Palme d’Or award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. He has also starred in films such as “Strana Sascha” and the Russian television series “Monastery.”

Glover co-created “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” with Francesca Sloane. Sloane is returning for Season 2 in the role of executive producer and showrunner with Glover executive producing as previously mentioned. The series is produced by New Regency and Amazon MGM Studios.
“Mr. and Mrs. Smith” was well received by both critics and audiences upon its release in February 2024. The series received 16 Emmy nominations for its first season, including those for best drama series, best actor in a drama (Glover), and best actress in a drama (Erskine). It ultimately picked up two Emmys — one for best stunt coordination for a drama and another for best guest actress in a drama (Michaela Cole).
