From a dark conference hall in Lille, Italy’s Amalfi Coast was given some major screen time as Prime Video used Series Mania to promote “Costiera,” the upcoming action drama series starring Jesse Williams.
The audience at the showcase were shown an exclusive sun-soaked teaser of the show — in which Williams plays a fixer at a luxury hotel tasked with finding the owner’s daughter — before it launches on the streaming platform later this year.
Speaking on stage, Nicole Morganti, Prime Video’s head of originals for Southern Europe, said that while “Costiera” had an American director in Adam Bernstein and an American lead, it was a “true Italian story, written by Italian writers,” featuring an international cast from France, Spain and the U.K., an Italian co-producer in Lux Vide and where “the Amalfi Coast is a protagonist.”
She added: “The most important thing is to show that Southern Europe can be the incubator and the place for an international story that can resonate around the world.”
Morganti also discussed another Italian production, the feature adaptation of “Love Me, Love Me,” the first book in Stefania S.’s Wattpad hugely popular trilogy of young adult romance novels.
The film is now shooting, she said and is “really a movie that can resonate with a global audience,” adding that “young adults really don’t care where it comes from.”
Morganti noted that Prime Video had been paying close attention to the comments made by fans of the books on social media when it came to how they adapted the novels, and even went out early with a picture of their “Love Me Love Me” cast to garner their response.
“We had an incredible reactionThey were also liking things like: Who is this guy? Who’s the blonde one?” She added that engaging with the fans in such a way helped “create such a love” around the fact they were making the film.
