Team Roc, Roc Nation’s social justice division, has announced the launch of a new true crime podcast called “Corruption Uncovered” that will investigate and examine the misconduct and systemic failures within the criminal justice system in Kansas City, Kansas. The inaugural episode of the weekly series will be available on Dec. 6.
According to the announcement, “Corruption Uncovered” will explore the longstanding allegations of corruption by the Kansas City, Kansas police department and will coincide with the trial of former KCKPD detective Roger Golubski, who is facing federal charges for abusing his power to extort and rape Black women and teenagers. His trial is part of a broader investigation into the KCKPD and the impact on the community.
Team Roc recently sued the KCKPD alleging an “unjustified failure” to produce records involving alleged police “abuse and misconduct” spanning decades.
The podcast series will dissect Golubski’s trial and feature interviews and commentary from survivors, impacted families, community members, attorneys, national and local activists to provide context.
“There is a need for powerful and comprehensive storytelling in the criminal justice sector so that the voices of those who have been silenced are heard,” says Team Roc managing director Dania Diaz said. “Our hope is for ‘Corruption Uncovered’ to not only achieve that purpose, but also to serve as an investigative platform that will expose misconduct, demand accountability and drive change from the people and systems that are duty bound to protect its citizens and community.”
“Corruption Uncovered” is hosted by journalist Josie Duffy Rice, whose work is primarily focused on prosecutors, prisons and other criminal justice issues. Her writing has been featured in The New York Times, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, The Atlantic and others.
