Royal Air Maroc welcomes its tenth Boeing 787 Dreamliner

The Moroccan flag carrier Royal Air Maroc is celebrating the arrival of the airline’s tenth Boeing 787 Dreamliner as part of an order placed in 2023.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner arrived at Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) on November 24, 2024, and was welcomed by a traditional water salute.

In July 2023, Royal Air Maroc signaled that the airline was looking to expand its fleet of over 50 aircraft, to 200 planes in the next 15 years.

“This delivery marks the first step in implementing Royal Air Maroc’s development plan, following the program agreement signed with the government in July 2023,” a spokesperson for the carrier said.

The new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner joins the airline as the tenth long-haul aircraft with Royal Air Maroc currently operating a mix of 787-9s and 787-8s.

“The new aircraft welcomed this Sunday, November 24, at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca with the traditional “Water Salute,” strengthens Royal Air Maroc’s fleet, particularly its long-haul aircraft family, which now increases from 9 to 10 aircraft,” the airline’s spokesperson said.

An eleventh Boeing Dreamliner is due to join the Royal Air Maroc fleet before the end of the year and will be deployed on new routes to São Paulo, Toronto and Beijing.

Boeing announced that Royal Air Maroc had placed a repeat order for the 787 Dreamliner in November 2023, after it was previously unidentified on the “Orders & Deliveries” website.

“The two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners will enable Royal Air Maroc to expand in the short-term its long-haul network in response to the highly favorable market conditions in 2023. Simultaneously, the company is actively pursuing a significant tender to quadruple the fleet before 2037,” Abdelhamid Addou, Chairman and CEO of Royal Air Maroc, said at the time.

Royal Air Maroc has added to its widebody plane count with a mix of 787-8s and 787-9s over the last ten years.
