Satirical Drama ‘Old White Man’ Picked Up by Picture Tree

Picture Tree Intl. has picked up the international sales rights for “Old White Man,” a satirical dramedy by Simon Verhoeven, director of box office hit “Welcome to Germany.”

“Old White Man” stars Jan Josef Liefers, Nadia Uhl and Elyas M’Barek, and is produced by Quirin Berg, Max Wiedemann and Kirstin Winkler from Wiedemann & Berg Film. PTI will present the film to buyers next month at the European Film Market.

The film was released in German-speaking territories by Leonine Distribution, and has attracted close to 1 million admissions in Germany so far and is still on release.

“Old White Man” examines the generational and cultural divide in today’s society through the lens of Heinz Hellmich, a middle-aged family man on the verge of losing his job after a series of communication blunders at work. Desperate to prove he’s not just an “old white man,” he invites his boss and guests to a dinner party, aiming to present his family as modern and “woke.” However, chaos ensues as old grievances resurface, unexpected guests arrive, and the conversation spirals through today’s most sensitive issues.

“’Old White Man’ continues Simon Verhoeven’s gift for delivering socially relevant and sharply observed stories that resonate with audiences across cultures,” says Yuan Rothbauer-Sui, Picture Tree Intl.’s co-managing director. “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Simon following the broad international success of ‘Welcome to Germany,’ which also struck a chord internationally.”

The film is produced with the support of DFFF, FFF Bayern, FFA, MBB and the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs.
